The Memphis Division of Fire Services is currently conducting Rapid Intervention Team training.  Every Firefighter on the job will be required to complete this training during 2004 and all future Firefighters will be required to complete the training during recruit school.  The class is approximately 24 hours spread over one 3-day set. 

Classroom topics covered include:
Firefighter fatality statistics
Rehab procedures
Mayday philosophy and procedures
Orientation to RIT procedures
Command and Control of a RIT operation
Building Construction

Hands on skills include:
Tools used by RIT
Lifting heavy objects
SCBA familiarization and confidence
Search line use
Victim packaging and handling
3-4 different firefighter rescue scenarios, with at least 1 being under live fire conditions

The training can be made available to firefighters from other agencies.  If demand requires it, the class can be expanded to 5 consecutive days and include firefighter survival and self-rescue.
