MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: High school graduate or equivalent
Must be currently certified by the State of Tennessee as an
Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) - Advanced and must maintain
such certification as required by state guidelines in accordance
with the Tennessee Emergency Medical Act;
Must work a twenty-four (24) hour shift, fifty-six (56) hours
a week
Must have a valid Tennessee Driver's License, Class “D,” Endorsement
“F;”
Must pass required background investigation and comprehensive
medical examination.
Must be twenty-one (21) years of age by the starting date
of the Firefighter/Paramedic Class for which he/she is considered.
Must have at least 20/125 distant visual acuity in each eye
without correction; and with correction, 20/20 binocular vision.
Must have at least 20/40 near vision in each eye separately
(Snellen Equivalent) with or without correction. Must have
normal color vision and depth perception.
Must be a citizen of the United States
Must be a legal resident of Shelby County (applicants accepted
for the Firefighter/Paramedic-Probationary position who currently
reside outside of Shelby County must establish legal residency
in Shelby County within six (6) months of the date the training
class begins)
Must pass a battery of tests including written fire selection
tests and physical ability tests; must progress through the
State of Tennessee Fire Fighter Certification Program (as
specified in NFPA Standards 1001) as a condition of continued
employment.
NOTE: FIREFIGHTER/PARAMEDIC-PROBATIONARIES MUST SUCCESSFULLY
COMPLETE FIRE ACADEMY TRAINING AND A ONE (1) YEAR PROBATIONARY
PERIOD.
ENTRY SALARY AND SALARY SCHEDULE:
Entry Salary (Firefighter/Paramedic-Probationary) - $3,200.63
month
After Twelve (12) Months (Firefighter/Paramedic) - $3,311.09
month
After Twenty-four (24) Months (Firefighter/Paramedic) - $3,549.61
month
After Thirty-six (36) Months (Firefighter/Paramedic) - $3,675.41
month
