Memphis Firefighters tackle 4 blazes at once Memphis firefighters battled four fires in different sections of the city all occurring within the span of an hour Monday afternoon. There were no injuries reported at any of the fires. A family at 420 Queens Drive off of Raleigh-Millington lost everything in the fire that occurred at 5:25 p.m., said Memphis Fire Department watch commander Bill Adelman. Another fire involving an apartment occurred at 5:34 p.m. at a vacant two-story apartment complex that was being renovated at Fifth and Mill. Division Chief Ronald Mitchell said the fire started on the second floor of the boarded-up building. The first blaze that firefighters were called to was a 15-acre grass fire at 4:42 p.m. at 175 W. Windsor. While firefighters were there, another fire was reported on Presidents Island at 2149 Harbor at GlaxoSmithKline plant. The cause of each fire is under investigation. |
