MEMPHIS, Tenn. (AP) - A house fire early Thursday spread to five other buildings, and investigators blamed arson.

Two firefighters were slightly injured. "When we arrived on the scene six structures were on fire, two on Simpson and four on Lucy," said Lt. Keith Staples of the Memphis Fire Department.

"Several of the structures are vacant, but one is an apartment building."

A woman who lived in one of the houses got out safely after neighbors pounded on her door to alert her to the flames.

The first alarm was sounded at 3:45 a.m. and a second alarm was turned in shortly after the first engines arrived.

It started on one street, then spread to houses on a parallel street, authorities said. The area is several blocks south of the city's downtown district.
