Lynn Richardson Strickland was killed in an airplane crash in Alabama
on Sunday, August 1st. Lynn would have been 41 on August 27th. Lynn
had been a Driver/Firefighter with the Shelby County Fire Department
since 1985 after service with the Germantown Fire Department and as
apprentice and volunteer firefighter. He was a graduate of Germantown
High School and attended the University of Memphis.
Lynn became a volunteer fire fighter at the age of 14 and it was the
only thing that he ever wanted to do except for flying.
Among his certificates and honors are the Tennessee State certified
Emergency Medical Technician, Hazardous Materials Recognition, Emergency
Vehicle Driving and Response, in addition to decision making and tactical
operations certificates from the National Fire Academy. He had also
participated in the World Fire and Police Games in Australia, Canada,
and Colorado.
Lynn was a certified Scuba Diver, member of the Harley-Davidson Club
of Memphis, the River City Ski Club, the Civil Air Patrol of Memphis
and the Aircraft Owners & Pilots Association.
Lynn had been a licensed pilot since 1996.
Lynn is survived by his parents, Lynn and Lynda Strickland also of Memphis,
TN, his brother Graham Strickland and his wife Christie, two sisters;
Allyson Boggan and her husband Steve, Courtney McCollough and her husband
Don, along with eight nieces and nephews.
Lynn's funeral service will take place on Friday, August 6th at 1:30
p.m. at Grace-St. Luke's Episcopal Church, 1720 Peabody. The visitation
will be from 12:30 pm - 1:30 also at the church. The family requests
that any memorials go to Grace-St. Luke's Music Ministry program.
