AP NEWS RELEASE - October
11, 2006
Today tragedy almost struck the Memphis Fire Dept. While fire companies
responded to a residential blaze in the Raleigh area Wednesday, Engine
Company 47, nearly lost their leader.
The 49 year old
Lieutenant brushed death while attempting a daring balancing act on what
seemed like miles above the structure to the 4' 7" firefighter.
As the firefighter
battled the blaze he performed a maneuver unlike anything ever seen by
his peers. This acrobatic feat nearly ended in tragedy when he slipped
and fell into a residential commode.
Three firefighters were injured racing for the handle to flush it. The Lt.
asked to remain anonymous so as to escape ridicule from other
firefighters.
When asked if they could
protect their leaders secret, the members of Engine Company 47-C
responded " Not Likely."
